Liturgia (I: Processional, II: Responsorio)

Originally for shinobue (Japanese bamboo piccolo flute) and orchestra. Later, the publisher Filarmonika, from Texas, published the score as an orchestral piece, the shinobue part played by the piccolo. The original version was commissioned by Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, which premiered it in the Grand Concert Hall of the Tokyo City Opera Theater, on March 30, 2000, with Kohei Nishikawa, shinobue; Ryusuke Numajiri, director. 20 minutes

The second movement (Responsorio), 8 minutes, has taken on a life of its own as part of the Caminos del Inka program, directed by Miguel Harth-Bedoya, and has been played by main international orchestras

Central Waltz

For youth symphony orchestra. Premiered in April 2010 at Friends' Central School, Wynnewood, Pennsylvania. Directed by Carl Bradley. 5 minutes

 

Flute Concerto

Single movement. 1987-1991. First version premiered by the Banff Festival Orchestra, at the Banff Festival of the Arts, Canada, on July 17, 1988, with Beatriz Magalhães-Castro, flute, and Robert Aitken conducting. Second version premiered on October 9, 1991 by the El Salvador Symphony Orchestra at the National Theater of San Salvador, with Beatriz Magalhães-Castro, flute, and Guillermo Figueroa, conducting. Premiered in Brazil on May 9, 1993, at the National Theater of Brasilia, with the same soloist and Júlio Medaglia, director. 17 minutes.

 

El Capariche

Orchestral variation on a traditional Ecuadorian theme. Part of a collection of variations written by various composers, coordinated by Milton Estévez. Commissioned by the National Symphony Orchestra, premiered and recorded by this orchestra in 2012, conducted by Natalie Marin. 4 minutes

 

Incienso (Incense)

For chamber orchestra. Commissioned by the II Ecuadorian Festival of Contemporary Music, premiered by the National Symphony Orchestra, at the Teatro Nacional Sucre in Quito, on May 27, 1988, director: Álvaro Manzano. Mexican premiere on May 12, 1991, at the Ollin Yoliztli Cultural Center Theater, with the Carlos Chávez Youth Symphony Orchestra. Sheet music published by Filarmonika, Texas. 9 minutes
