1. ORCHESTRAL MUSIC

LITURGIA, for shinobue (Japanese bamboo piccolo) and orchestra. 2000. Commissioned and premiered by Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra at the Tokyo Opera City Hall on March 30, 2000. Also performed by Ecuadorian Youth Orchestra (FOSJE). 20 minutes. (I: PROCESIONAL, 11 minutes, and II: RESPONSORIO, 9 minutes).

FLUTE CONCERTO. 1986-1991. Premiered by El Salvador National Symphony. Also played by Brasilia National Theatre Symphony Orchestra, New York Riverside Symphony, and Banff festival Orchestra. 20 minutes.

INCIENSO, for orchestra. 1988. Commissioned and premiered by Ecuador National Symphony on May 27, 1988 at Sucre National Theatre, Quito (Alvaro Manzano, conductor). Also played by Mexico’s Carlos Youth Chavez Orchestra. 10 minutes.

FELIPILLO, for orchestra. 1986. Commissioned by Ecuador National Symphony. Also played by Manhattan School of Music Orchestra. 7 minutes.

EL NIÑO DE LOS ANDES, (The Child of the Andes). Semi-staged cantata for five soloists, choir, and six instruments (Andean instruments, percussion, guitar and bass). Libretto by the composer. 2008. Commissioned by VocalEssence, Minneapolis, Minnesota. To be premiered on December 7, 2008 (Philip Brunelle, conductor). 45 minutes.

MANUELA Y BOLÍVAR, Love and death of the Liberators. Opera in 2 acts, for 5 soloists, choir, actors, dancers, and symphony orrchestra. Libretto by the composer. 2006. Commissioned by Sucre National Theater Foundation, Quito, Ecuador. Premiered on November 13, 2006, at the Teatro Sucre, (Javier Andrade, director; Alvaro Manzano, conductor). Performed 12 times since its premiere. 2 hours.

UN NACIMIENTO, Christmas carol for choir and guitar. Text by the composer. 2006. Premiered on December 3, 2006 by Vocalessence choir, of Minneapolis, (Philip Brunelle, conductor). 3 or 4 minutes

QUITO MITICO, Cantata for choir, symphonic band, Andean instruments, and guitar ensemble. 2004. Commissioned by Municipio Metropolitano de Quito. Premiered by 110 musicians from Coro Mixto Ciudad de Quito, Octeto Kantart, Banda Sinfónica, Orquesta de Instrumentos Andinos y Ensamble de Guitarras, on August 20, 2004, at the Teatro Nacional CCE (Patricio Mantilla and Medardo Caizabanda, conductors). 56 minutes.

CANTICUM CANTICORUM, for choir and organ (ad lib). 2004. Based on biblical texts from The Song of Songs. Written for the film 1809-1810 Mientras Llega el Día. Recorded by Vozteso Ensamble. 6 minutes.

DOS EPIFANÍAS (I: Vivo, II: Loja en el Corazón), two songs for tenor, baritone, and orchestra. Text by the composer. 2003. Commissioned by Serenata a la Virgen del Cisne, and Loja Symphony Orchestra. Premiered by Andrés Carrera (barítono), Juan Borja (tenor), and Orquesta Sinfónica de Loja ( Patricio Alvarez, conductor) at Loja Cathedral, on September 14, 2004. 11 minutes.

RESURRECCIÓN EN QUITO, History of the city of Quito with spoken texts, songs, radio theater, processions, church bells, percussion, and fireworks. Text by the composer. 2003. Commissioned by Second International Festival of Sacred Music of Ecuador. Premiered on April 20, 2003 by hundreds of performers in the streets and squares of the city. Also performed in concert at the Teatro Nacional de la CCE on September 10 and 11, 2003 (Pecky Andino director; Wilson Haro conductor). 70 minutes.

ROMERÍA A LA VIRGEN DEL CISNE, for choir and string orchestra. Text by the composer. 2002. Commissioned by First International Festival of Sacred Music of Ecuador. Premiered on March 18, 2002, by Coro Pichincha and Orquesta de la Universidad de Cuenca (conductor: Alvaro Manzano). 9 minutes.

SHAMAN, for baritone and orchestra. 2001. Commissioned by and premiered by Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra at the Tokyo Opera City Hall on October 19, 2001. (Kazamusa Watanabe, conductor; Katsunori Kono, baritone). 7 minutes.
